Self talk… we all do it. Whether it’s positive or negative, there is always a little voice in our minds sharing its opinion. What effect does the voice have over our lives? The answer is that the tiny voice affects our lives in a big way. If we are saying affirmations and mantras that are positive and self-esteem boosting, then we make choices that are positive. But when the voice goes into negative territory, it can cause great damage to our lives. Here are some reasons why it is important to keep your negative self talk in check.
5 Things That Happen When You Don’t Stop Negative Self Talk
1. It Makes Manifestation Almost Impossible
Negative self talk puts us in a low state of consciousness which makes it super hard to manifest anything we desire. What are we telling the universe when we say things like, ‘I’m not good enough’ or, ‘I’m a failure’? We are saying to the universe that we are not ready for the abundance and joy that it is ready to provide for us. We are telling the universe to hold off on the rewards and wait until we are in a higher energy state.
2. It’s a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
On the flip side of not being able to manifest what you want, negative self talk makes things go wrong in your life. If you’re constantly telling yourself that you’re a failure, that you’re out of shape, that you’re not smart, then you will actually start to develop those characteristics. The more you tell yourself negative things, the more your become those things and vice versa. This creates an intense spiral of negativity. To overcome this downhill pattern, we must utilize positive self talk whenever we can.
3. It Negates All of Our Mantras + Affirmations
So, you say your mantras every morning and before you go to sleep. Sometimes, you remember them throughout the day. On a great day, you are living your mantras and keeping a positive mindset. But when negative self talk creeps in, it can damage all the work you have done on creating a high vibration for yourself. This is especially true if your negative beliefs about yourself are deep-rooted.
4. Negative Thoughts Train Your Mind
Just like positive affirmations, negative self talk will lead into even more negative self talk. If you keep telling yourself that you are not good enough, you are prone to think that again and again. Take control of the situation by practicing affirmations in the morning. Remember to repeat them when you are under stress.
5. They Don’t Just Affect Us
If you’re speaking negatively to yourself, it might seem like it’s all in your head. And it is… sort of. Nobody can hear what you’re thinking, but they will experience the negativity with your actions. When you think in a negative way, your behavior will reflect that and everyone around you will feel the bad vibes.
How to Overcome Your Negative Thoughts
When we think negative things about ourselves, it’s easy to keep thinking them. One thought could turn into many and your life can quickly spiral out of control if you’re not careful, and present.
If you are continually practicing negative self talk, there are many things you can do to pull yourself out of it, affirmations, self-development exercises, meditation and educating yourself on all things to do with human behaviour.
Affirmations will work for you, if you focus on FEELING what it would feel like, rather than just speaking the words. For example, if you tell yourself that you’re ugly, you could negate the statement by saying, ‘I am beautiful, inside and out.” – Add to that the feeling: What does it feel like to be a beautiful person? To have others recognise you as a beautiful, kind person.
This will stop the chain of negativity in its tracks. You also won’t have the negative energy to deal with, because you have turned your negative thought into a positive one.
