In our fast-paced, modern world, we could all do with a little more peace and calm. We live a life of instant gratification where almost everything seems disposable, including our relationships. When we are not connected to what is around is, it usually means we are not connected to ourselves; and therefore it is very hard to feel at peace. Here are 5 Steps To Finding Peace Within Yourself- And How To Keep It.
5 Steps To Finding Peace Within Yourself
So how can we find the peace that we crave? And once we find it how do we keep it?
1- Write it down or type it out.
Journaling is an excellent way to express some of the negative self talk or emotions that may be running through your mind. Whether its on your laptop or in a paper journal, just get whatever it is that’s bothering you out of your head. When you clear out the noise, what’s left is your natural state of being; stillness and peace.
2- Set personal boundaries.
Personal boundaries are the physical and emotional limits we create which help us to protect ourselves from being manipulated or used. This is crucially important in the creation of your inner peace because boundaries help you to practice self love and self compassion. Healthy personal boundaries help you to generate respect for yourself. It isn’t always easy, but it is important that you speak up if you disagree with something another person has said, or that you let someone know that you don’t like what they did to you. It is safe to speak your truth.
3- Use positive affirmations.
Once you have removed a lot of your negative mental chatter by journaling and setting boundaries, you can replace them with positive, empowering thoughts and affirmations. For example: “I am at completely at peace in my life,” and, “I am happy, joyful and present in all that I do”. Repeat these affirmations daily or whenever you feel yourself slipping back into negative self talk.
4- Change your diet.
The foods you eat, or don’t eat, can greatly impact your sense of calm and wellbeing. If you want to be calmer, try to reduce or eliminate refined sugars, processed foods and especially caffeine. As well as reducing some foods, you also need to increase your intake of others. Natural whole foods like fruit, vegetables and healthy fats all contribute to an overall feeling of wellbeing and peace.
5- Meditate.
It makes sense that by taking a few moments every day to sit and breathe that we will feel calmer and more clear, and science has now proven it; many times over. The list of benefits from practicing meditation is long and varied, but in short, meditation has been scientifically proven to help improve memory, reduce blood pressure, increase our immunity and even reduce our pain. You don’t need to do it every day, and it doesn’t have to be for long, but incorporating a meditation practice into your life will certainly help you to find your inner calm.
If you follow these simple steps and choose to incorporate them into your life, you will certainly be on the way to finding peace within yourself, for life.
