When you really discover what it means to fully accept who you are all aspects then that I would assert is the discovery of what love is.

It’s really that simple, like, you know, it’s very easy as a spiritual teachers and esoteric philosophers and poets to talk about love as though that is our nature, and I’m not denying that, but it’s one thing to know that, okay, I am love. It’s another thing to experience I AM love.

And the way I’ve often used for myself as an expression, I say, I AM IN-LOVE and people often will say, wow, that’s awesome. Congratulations. And I’m like, no, no, no, no… I am IN THE ENERGY… I am in the essence, I am bathing within the quality that is love itself.

Yes, of course. I love companionship. I love falling in love with other… that’s a fun experience, but to recognize that I am actually held by the essence of love itself, that is, I would say not only a rare experience, it’s an anomaly to the norm, but I would assert it’s actually what we’re all here for… is to awaken to the fact that I am held by the container of the essence of love itself. And until such that I get that I will invariably be seeking it through the adoration or the validation or the reassurance of other, for which reason I will constantly be dependent on what they do or say to the point that everything is now a perceived threat. And for that reason, I will be perpetually in a state of exhaustion, which is really a futile battle for me to overcome the fact that I believe that there’s fundamentally something wrong with me. That’s not lovable.

And there in lies, the biggest pretense of all that, I somehow believe that there is something wrong with me. And I’m looking to the outside world to compensate for that or to reassure me otherwise, which is again, it’s a futile plight because if that’s how I’ve defined myself, then it doesn’t matter how many millions of people might love me until such time that I really get that for myself. It’s all window dressing.

You know, when people are like always trying to lean into like positive vibes or good feelings,

they’re denying 50% of what it means to be human, which is that just by virtue of being a sentient being, you’re going to have a myriad of different feelings.

Some of which you might think are great or the negative, but to what degree can you be big enough as a human being, to hold the space, the container of love, just like a really adoring mother does for her child, which she allows all of it to be that, of course you may have preference, but there’s no judgment of a child that’s just experiencing and self expressing whatever is going on. That is the container of love that I want to inspire, that I do inspire for people to bring to themselves, such that they can make space for their humanity, warts and all.

It’s not always going to be pretty, but that’s the nature of love. The very nature of love is such that it actually makes space for that, which isn’t necessarily lovable.

It’s easy to love all the parts of you that you love. It’s easy to love the parts of you that you like or that you think are your greatest features or your greatest character traits, but where can you develop love for the part of you that you find to be imperfect to the part of you that finds to be flawed? That’s the very essence of what loves means.

To make sufficient space for all parts of me, even those that my persona, my ego are somehow belittling, berating, or judging. That is the antithesis of love.

And so that is why it’s almost beautifully designed by virtue of being human… We are flawed, we are imperfect. And if it weren’t for that, we wouldn’t understand what it means to develop true. Unconditional love.

2. Eckhart Tolle

Best known for his bestseller, The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle offers a wondrous perspective about the trappings of the egoic mind. He insists that all problems stem from the mind, and it is until we can go beyond it (the egoic mind) to the seat of consciousness that we can find peace, love, and joy. He also provides a pragmatic approach to practicing his teachings in his book Practicing the Power of Now.

Oprah Winfrey is a big fan, and he is one spiritual teacher we recommend for anyone struggling with the egoic mind.

3. Wayne Dyer

Wayne Dyer happens to be the father of motivation focusing on self-empowerment. He centers on positive thinking as a means of creating the life you desire. For quite some time, Wayne resisted what he would later call his true calling-spiritual work. He is also a prolific writer with over 30 books but is best known for Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the Art of Manifesting. The book teaches about your amazing manifesting powers. Though he might seem a bit woo-woo, his work is pretty grounded.

4. Neville Goddard

If you are interested in understanding the power of your imagination, Neville Goddard is the spiritual teacher for you. Neville teaches us to discipline our minds by focusing on our desires. Somewhat pragmatically, he provides techniques that we can follow to manifest our dreams or longings. He also happened to be a prolific author, with blockbusters such as The Power of Awareness, and Feeling is the Secret.

5. Rhonda Byrne

If you have read The Secret, then in a sense you know what Rhonda Byrne is about. Rhonda is a spiritual teacher who focusses on the Law of Attraction. Her teachings are straightforward, and we recommend them for people who are starting their spiritual journey. She also happens to be a TV producer and has been on Time Magazine’s list of 100 people who shape the world.

6. Deepak Chopra

Deepak marries spirituality and science and specifically medicine. However, he is multi-faceted focusing on meditation and history of most spiritual teachers. He has written over 50 books with The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success being on the New York best seller list for more than 72 weeks.

7. Abraham Hicks

We channel in all sort of ways from meditation, prayer, or when we are in “the zone.” Abraham too happens to be a source energy that Esther Hicks can channel. Abraham is an infinite intelligence that flows through Esther Hicks or as Jerry describes them the “the purest form of love I have ever experienced.”

If you so desire to meet the source, then Abraham is the spiritual teacher for you.

8. Barbara Marx Hubbard

Referred to as “the voice for conscious evolution of our time” by Deepak Chopra, Barbara Hubbard is credited for bringing futurist concepts into society. Her teachings were so influential that she was nominated for Vice President by the Democratic party in 1984. She believes in creating a peace room where we can build better connections as humans, and also achieving Christ-like consciousness as we are endowed with Christ-like powers.

9. Jaggi Vasudev

Commonly known as Sadhguru, Jaggi Vasudev is the founder of the Isha foundation which has gone to garner millions of followers worldwide. He is an Indian Yogi and author who teaches about life and inner change. He has spoken in places such as Google, UN, Harvard, and Oxford.

His primary focus is in acceptance of things as they are. He encourages us to accept what we do not know, to speak only of what is in our experience, and to accept things as they are, not as we wish them to be.

10. Neale Donald Walsch

Spiritual teachers have gone on to change the world, but few have had the same impact as Neale Donald Walsch. Famous for the Conversations with God trilogy, Neale redefined religion and God in a way never thought of before. Similar to Esther Hicks, he could channel God into what would culminate as the three books.

His teaching emphasizes our interconnectedness with the divine and that God is always communicating with us if only we are willing to listen. He teaches that Love is all there is and that we are the creators of our realities. He also went on to write The Only Thing That Matters and What God Said.

Ubuntu is an African term meaning “humanity.”

The philosophical concept behind the term is that there is a universal bond that connects all of humanity to each other. Simply put, Ubuntu means we are all one.

Desmond Tutu explained the concept in this way.

“Africans have a thing called Ubuntu. We believe that a person is a person through other persons. That my humanity is caught up, bound up, inextricably, with yours. When I dehumanize you, I dehumanize myself. The solitary human being is a contradiction in terms. Therefore you seek to work for the common good because your humanity comes into its own in community, in belonging.” Desmond Tutu

The Ubuntu concept is that we each exist as an extension of one another. We are all innately connected through our being here on Earth at the same time.

When one person suffers, we all suffer. When one person rejoices, we all rejoice.

What a beautiful idea.

It makes me wonder what the world would look like if every person on the planet embraced the concept of Ubuntu?

What would we see if this oneness spread itself across the globe, through all races and religions?

Sadly, the current state of the world is anything but connected. Everywhere we turn we see disconnect There are wars being fought because we insist on division.

On a global scale, we insist on choosing righteousness over the connection to others. We insist on holding on to the pain of the past and using it to fuel the wars of the present.

Further to this global issue, on person to person level, we are not connecting either. Many of us are hiding our truth and avoiding the vulnerability of sharing ourselves with our fellow humans.

Concepts along the lines of “suffer in silence, don’t share your wins, don’t share your pain” all feed into the separation consciousness.

This is tragic because, at the deepest level, we all want to connect. Primally, we all want to love and we all want to feel accepted.

So how can we bring the concept of Ubuntu into our own lives?

Really all that is required to embrace the concept of Ubuntu is to unpack and dissolve the idea that we are separate from one another.

We need to remove the idea we are alone in this world, and that we have to fight to survive. We need to forget the teachings we have received that taught us one is better than another in terms of religion, race or social status, we need to learn to trust one another again.

Start at home, start by opening up to your friends and family. Build a community around yourself then allow others, no matter who they are to enter that community without judgement. Learn to lean on those around you at the same time as being a support to them.

This is Ubuntu.

Embracing it will change your life and the world around you too. Seems like a pretty good idea right?

Telling apart a spiritual master from pretentious teachers is an arduous task.

First, we can’t take everything at face value, as any ragtag and bobtail can claim to be a spiritual master.

Moreover, most confuse gurus for spiritual masters. While the former will teach you the ways of this world, a spiritual master has freed themselves from the worldly desires. They will not only guide you through tough times but if you are willing, they will put you on a path of enlightenment.

Should you come across one, you will notice these traits of a spiritual master..

1. Spiritual Masters Are Free From Attachment

One trait of a spiritual master is that they are non-attached. No, not indifferent, only that they do not derive value from worldly or materialistic things.

You can tell an indifferent individual from an enlightened fellow in that the former is insensitive and dispassionate about the world while the latter still loves, is passionate, and excited about things around him without being attached to them. Instead, a true master recognizes the temporary nature of worldly possessions and chooses to focus on embellishing his heart and soul.

2. They Do Not Judge

You can recognize an awakened fellow by their non-judgmental nature. It is one of the traits of a spiritual master. Judging a person boils down to the fact that they have a character that does not tickle our fancy. It is natural for we cannot know what acceptance is without being judgmental.

A spiritual master though accepts you as you are. They recognize you are unique, that that’s what makes you beautiful and they embrace and love everything about you.

3. They Are One With Nature

Another trait of a spiritual master is that they are one with nature. Unlike the world around that treats nature as a resource to be exploited, a master appreciates every part of it. They understand the interconnectedness of all life and that the world is our common home. They treat nature with respect and live as equal participants realizing that we are all children of the universe.

4. A Spiritual Master Is The Embodiment Of Love

I believe that all the other traits of a spiritual master flow from the fact they are the personification of love. Unlike most people who find it challenging to love unreservedly, enlightened folks love unconditionally. They have a deep appreciation for all people and nature and understand that love is the universal language. Understood by man and nature alike.

5. Spiritual Masters Are Sensitive But Non-Reactive

Feelings are overwhelming. How often can a person offend you without you defending yourself? We have perfected the art of giving people a taste of our minds whenever we are affronted. We are quite sensitive but explosive. As a countermeasure, we choose to numb ourselves to the world.

However, another trait of a spiritual master is that they are sensitive but non-reactive. They have managed to cultivate the perfect balance and are at a point where they understand that not everything needs a reaction. They let the emotions flow through them without generating a reaction.

6. Teaching Others Is Natural

Rumi was a spiritual master back in the 13^th century who blessed us with poetry. However, it was his student who wrote down his poems, and often Rumi could not remember what he taught. This is characteristic of any spiritual master. They speak from the heart and teaching comes to them naturally. They engage with others effortlessly, and their lessons resonate with most folks.

Spiritual masters are rare, but that should not keep you from looking for one. Though we cannot all be at their level of understanding, there is a lot we can learn from them for a truly fulfilling life.

Lessons We Can Learn from Tree Symbolism

The following thoughts can aid in your awareness of what we can learn from trees:

• The importance of staying grounded (or deeply rooted) while simultaneously growing and reaching new heights to gain a higher perspective. We can view our beliefs and spirituality in much the same way. They serve as our “anchor” while we explore along our individual paths.
• Overcoming obstacles – tree branches will grow in and around any obstacles in their path – always finding another way.
• Always growing – if you notice tree branches, they are always reaching, growing, contorting, and expanding. We can relate that lesson to our own spiritual path to persevere in always expanding our knowledge and awareness.
• Tree trunks have an outer layer for protection (which correlates to our outer “ego”) and their inner core is where the tree regenerates and finds nourishment. We can relate this with our own lives in realizing that our own spiritual nourishment and development must begin from within.
• Trees incorporate the four elements of life: water (nourishing their roots and found in tree sap), earth (their roots burrowing into the earth for protection), air (where branches reach into the sky), and fire (using their wood rubbed together to create warmth). So trees are often viewed as a symbol of creation as a whole. We can learn from trees in seeing how they navigate and relate to life’s different elements.

Historical Cultural Awareness of Tree Symbolism

We can look back through the history of various cultures to further understand the importance of tree symbolism.

Here are just a few historic examples:

• Famously, related to Buddhism beliefs, Siddhartha Gautama became enlightened while sitting under a fig tree. There, he was born as Buddha and named the tree Bodhi.
• In Judeo-Christianity, from the Book of Genesis, we see parables about both the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge.
• Sacred groves (a grove or gathering of trees symbolically important to particular cultures’ religious beliefs) were mostly prominent in the Ancient Near East and prehistoric Europe, yet also extend to various cultures throughout the world. These include “Celtic, Baltic, Germanic, ancient Greek, Near Eastern, Roman, and Slavic polytheism, and were also used in India, Japan, and West Africa.”

In sum, as you notice trees in your life, take a few moments to connect with “tree energy” and relate to the lessons we can learn. You may notice that you feel humble when connecting to tree energy – or peaceful, serene, or perhaps grateful.

In their grace and longevity, trees speak to us and offer depths of wisdom through their symbolism.

When people hear the word “mantra,” unless already familiar with its true meaning may equate it as being the same as an affirmation. There is a difference.. So what is a mantra precisely?

Discovering Mantras: What Is a Mantra?

In the simplest terms, it’s based on two root Sanskrit words: manas (mind) and tra (tool).  So the word “mantra” literally means “mind tool” or “a tool for the mind.”  You can use mantras – either spoken aloud, internally, or chanted repetitiously – to help focus your mind. This will enhance a deeper state of awareness, most traditionally during meditation and spiritual practices.

The reason “mantra” and “affirmation” tend to get confused is because you can use an affirmation AS your mantra during meditation. Or, you can simply use a single word or sound.

Using mantras as a daily meditation practice, over time, can help your mind access deeper areas of your subconscious. When seeking to make changes in our lives, we most often experience blocks due to our subconscious thoughts and beliefs.

Thomas Ashley-Farrand, author of Mantra Meditation, writes, “Mantra meditation is not only something one practices, but a radical re-envisioning of ourselves, our lives and our ability to create the future we desire.”

Essentially, you can use mantras to start appreciating the joy of simplicity and experiencing more overall happiness.

How to Use a Mantra

Using mantras can assist in entering a deep state of meditation or to energize an intention. Repetition is key. When you find your mind wandering, bring it back to your chosen word or phrase and appreciate the simplicity of repetition.

There are various schools of thought about how many times you need to repeat your mantra before you notice changes in your life. Most traditionally, you would repeat your mantra 108 times daily for it to be most effective. This is because, “in Vedic culture, the Mathematicians saw the number 108 as the wholeness of existence.” In doing so, you are aligning yourself with the will of the universe and its creative life force.

Others believe that reciting multiple times for 40 days in a row invokes change. This idea is based around examples of Buddha and Jesus Christ. Based on this belief, it took 40 days of daily meditation for life changes to occur.  (In using this 40-day meditation ritual, if a day is missed, you must begin again at day 1. Otherwise, it would not be as effective, according to those who practice it.)

But reciting your mantra can really be used at any time throughout your day to reap benefits. The more you repeat it, the better aligned with it you will become. In this way, you can always use this as a tool for stilling your mind.

Mantras for Meditation

During meditation, you would repeat your mantra silently or out loud for the time you are meditating.  Meditating daily in this way is most helpful. The goal of this practice is to rise above the everyday activity of your mind.

The type of mantra that works best in this capacity is one where you are not focused on any specific idea or outcome. So affirmation mantras, while helpful in other ways, wouldn’t tend to work as well in this setting as a tool for focusing the mind during meditation.

Because this type of mantra has no meaning to your conscious mind, you are able to simply focus on the word or phrase. The thought or sound vibrations assist you in accessing a heightened state of awareness.

Mantras to Energize an Intention

Alternatively, you could choose an affirmation as a mantra to repeat (silently or out loud) for specific periods of time throughout your day. Using a mantra in this way will help to energize your intention with heightened awareness.

During the course of the day, when you feel stressed or out of balance, you would repeat your chosen word or phrase to calm your mind and bring you back into focus.

How to Choose a Mantra

Choosing a mantra will depend on how you intend to use it – whether for meditation or to energize an intention. There is no single way to choose one. But you DO want to choose one that has positive connotations rather than one that you associate with any negativity.

For meditation purposes, to assist in attaining a deeper meditative state, choose a single word or phrase.  Traditionally, Sanskrit words are used for this purpose.  For example, using the word “Om” is said to be the sound of the universe or the primordial sacred sound. Another example is “Om Mani Padme Hum,” which is said to “unlock the loving and unconditional qualities of compassion.”

To use a mantra for energizing an intention, focus on what you want to achieve. Then choose a word or phrase that aligns with your intention. Keep in mind that it should always represent your greatest good without attachment to a specific outcome. Some examples of affirmation mantras are: “Love surrounds me;” “I attract abundance in my life;” or “I am at peace with myself and the universe.”

However you choose to harness the benefits, there is no down side. Try various words of phrases (and methods) until you feel energized by it.  When you feel attuned to using a particular mantra, you will begin to enjoy the benefits of this empowering daily practice.

It’s not easy to hit rock bottom, it hurts. It’s humiliating… the pain, the darkness, the loneliness.

It’s even worse when you’ve fallen from the peak of the mountain. That’s what happened to me.

I remember the day I hit rock-bottom. It was Christmas Eve and I was alone. I had nobody to go home to, no friends by my side. Nobody to celebrate what should have been a joyous time of the year.

As I walked through the street of Bologna by myself, all I saw around me was happiness. Happy couples, smiling families, laughing children. Witnessing the joy of others, when my own heart was enveloped in a sea of loneliness, pierced my soul.

It was as if the cold winter wind had pierced into my heart to remind me that my life was void of warmth, void of joy, void of light.

And all because I made a decision to leave behind everything I had worked for, everything I owned and everything in my life. And boy, I’d left behind so much.

I used to live the kind of glamorous life many people would envy. I was an international supermodel walking the catwalks of Milan, Paris, Madrid. I was married to a dashing man who was also a model. I owned three companies and lived in a beautiful home. I had the life, dreams were made of.

But despite having all of that, I was depressed. I felt like my life had no meaning. And that’s why one day I just decided to leave everything. I left my marriage, I left the house to my ex-husband. I also left my three companies without taking any money or shares.

On top of that, all my friends abandoned me because they thought I had gone crazy. Nobody could see how unhappy I really was. Nobody could see the dream I wanted for myself. Because to everybody else, I was already living the dream. And I should already be happy.

So, when I walked away from that life, nobody supported me. The only thing I had was the determination to build a whole new life. A life I could be proud of. A life that would hold more meaning than an empty glamorous shell.

But the path was not easy. I was not equipped with tools to navigate the sudden changes in my life. My attempts to run workshops as a motivational coach were not doing very well. I was struggling to get students. And my savings were dwindling down fast. That’s why on that winter of Christmas Eve, on the streets of Bologna, Italy, I hit rock-bottom.

As I sat alone in my small apartment at night, I began questioning my decisions. Had I really gone crazy? Did I really throw away everything good in my life? Have I become a total failure? Am I going to make it on my own? Or should I just give up? Has God abandoned me, too?

But as the saying goes, when you’ve reached rock-bottom, the only way is up. And thankfully, at that moment, I decided to look up. I decided to rise up from rock-bottom. I shifted my view.

I began to see the process I was going through. Not as a depression but as a spectacular turning point. I started seeing the wounds in my heart as cracks that were letting in new light. A light that had been previously shut out from my life.

I realized, that though I had fallen, I had actually fallen into the hands of God. Because there’s no other place you can fall. And there, I felt deeply connected to spirit. And in that moment, I knew that, yes, I can rise up. I was determined to give my dreams another chance.

I committed to examine my own belief system and my fears. I diligently practiced meditation and paid more attention to the words I use. And became more aware to the meaning I gave the events in my life.

Through this process, just as a butterfly emerges from a dark cocoon, I, too, entered a beautiful new phase of my life. It was a whole new life where I truly had my own wings to fly.

I was no longer simply standing on a mountain-top that others envied. That was meaningless to me. I was now actually creating the difference my soul was born to do. After stepping into my authentic self and true purpose, things began to shift.

The most beautiful part of my journey, is realizing how being at rock-bottom was probably the best thing that happened to me. Because rock-bottom will teach you lessons that mountain-tops never will. Rock-bottom will show you how strong you really are. Rock-bottom is the foundation for you to rise up and create a whole new life.
