<p>It’s that time of year again&#8230; the new year&#8230;  Time for some new year resolutions…</p>
<p>But not so fast.   Studies have shown 88% of people who set new year resolutions fail to reach them.   In fact, the majority of those people will have quit before we are in the second month of the year!</p>
<p>Less than 12% do something different… they stick to their goals.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>That’s the statistics. 88% fail and quit. 12% stick at it. And that doesn’t even mean the results of the 12% are lasting.</strong></p></blockquote>
<p>Why do that many people fail? More importantly: Why do the so few succeed?</p>
<p>There are 5 main reasons&#8230; listen in so you can be one of the few who conquer their goals, not just new year goals, but every kind of goals, targets and dreams you have.</p>
<h2><strong>Number 1: Review Your Year, Take In The Good, Notice The Blessings and Use The Lessons.</strong></h2>
<p>This is a powerful process. Not just in looking forward to LEARN and ACHIEVE MORE, but also looking back at how far you’ve come and being grateful for everything that was great this past year.</p>
<p>Get a pen and paper and write down your answers to the following questions. We will provide a download sheet in the description as well.</p>
<p>Think back over the past year.</p>
<p>Write down:</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>What was great this past year?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What was your favorite memory?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What were you proud of?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What was your greatest achievement?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What was your greatest lesson?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What was unacceptable from that year, in other word… What can you do BETTER?</strong></p>
<p><strong>What lessons could you take into this next year to make sure you are in a better position in 12 months time?</strong></p></blockquote>
<h2><strong>Number 2: Do you know where you’re going?</strong></h2>
<p>Most people give up on their goals and resolutions so easily because they don’t have a clear target they are working towards.</p>
<p>They have vague resolutions like “lose weight” or “make more money” but no plan as to how that will be achieved and no deadline for when it will be achieved by.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>If it is not CLEAR it will not happen.</strong><br />
<strong>If it is not PLANNED it will not happen.</strong></p></blockquote>
<p>Get clear about the result you must have.<br />
For example:<br />
“I WILL LOSE 30 POUNDS”<br />
“I WILL MAKE ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN EXTRA INCOME.”</p>
<p>Get precise about the time in which you will achieve it.</p>
<p>“I WILL LOSE 30 POUNDS&#8230; By March 30th, 2020 &#8221;<br />
“I WILL MAKE ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN EXTRA INCOME&#8230;By December 31, 2020&#8243;</p>
<p>Get clear about what you what and when you must have it… and you WILL HAVE IT.</p>
<h2><strong>Number 3: Change Your Identity</strong></h2>
<p>For many people their goals and resolutions fail because, although they might have a plan, they never believe they are that person that can change long term.</p>
<p>The person doesn’t lose weight because they identify themselves as a sweet tooth. The person doesn’t quit smoking, because they identify themselves as a smoker and they still believe they NEED IT for stress relief.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>You must change HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF if you want permanent change.</strong></p></blockquote>
<p>DIE to your OLD-SELF so your new self can be reborn.</p>
<h2><strong>Number 4: Improve Your Circle</strong></h2>
<p>If the people around you are not supporting the POSITIVE CHANGES you want to make in your life&#8230; distance yourself from these people until you make the changes you must make.</p>
<p>If the same people are still not supportive after you’ve made these great changes, maybe you need to review the people you are around.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>Surround yourself with people who are going to help and support you, people who want to see you make these changes permanent. </strong></p></blockquote>
<p>If they are not in your immediate environment &#8211; find them online, follow positive people, people who have already achieved the results you want to achieve. Listen to their podcasts, read their books. Immerse yourself in the result you want to achieve.</p>
<h2><strong>Number 5: Believe.</strong></h2>
<p>Believe it is possible by finding stories of others who have done it before you.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Internal motivators are behaviours that are driven by internal rewards. This means that the motivation behind the the way you are choosing to act comes from an internal source.</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-weight: 400;">An example of an <strong><em>internal motivator</em></strong> could be a personal feeling of accomplishment, or simply the satisfaction of doing something you enjoy. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-weight: 400;">An example of an <strong><em>external motivator</em></strong> could be the drive to gain money, fame or status. This motivator comes from outside of you.</span></li>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So what makes internal motivation important and why do we need to be aware of it?</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But often, over time, and with all the distractions present in our day to day life, we can fall off track and lose that focus we started with. There are lots of things that can distract us, social media, family commitments, television, work, the list is endless. As the distractions add up, the feeling of determination and clarity we initially had can slip away, and with it, the dream of achieving what we want.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However it happens, it is extremely common for our focus and determination to dip now and then when we are on the journey to achieving something we have never done before.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A lot of this has to do with the fact that when we set our sights on achieving something we have new, there is a lack of evidence in our mind that we can achieve it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your brain may say to you that because you have never done this particular thing before, that it is a foolish idea to try. You may even tell yourself that you aren’t capable. Self-talk like this can generate a sense of self-doubt which ultimately leads to a decrease in focus. It is the ultimate in self-sabotage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So how can we get back on track towards our goals when we lose focus? </span></p>

Starting a fitness journey is the best decision you could make, ever! It’s one of those ‘choose yourself’ decisions. Like deciding to invest in real estate; only this time YOU are the investment. Getting fit  can be a daunting prospect. Yes at times it will be tough and you will want to give up.. These tips will help you achieve your <span style="color: #3366ff;"><a style="color: #3366ff;" href="https://iamfearlesssoul.com/running-changed-life/">fitness</a></span> goals &amp; have you feeling more energetic and confident than ever before!</p>
<h2>1. Aches &#8211; Challenges of a Fitness Journey</h2>
<h3>Muscle aches</h3>
<p>Be prepared to ache. Everywhere.</p>
<p>You do five pushups, the next day your arms, abs, and chest ache. You decide to go jogging, the next day your legs, back, and abs hurt like crazy; climbing out of bed becomes a nightmare. If you do sit-ups/other crunches please, I repeat, please don’t watch comedy or cough for the next couple of days.</p>
<p>All these are typical aches.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t go to hospital claiming you have malaria as I did.</p>
<p>Just push through them, in a day or three they&#8217;ll subside. However, there some things you could do to ease the pain:</p>
<p><strong>Massage the aching area</strong></p>
<p>A quick rub can ease inflammation, improve blood flow and reduces muscle tightness.</p>
<p><strong>Cryotherapy (Applying ice to sore muscles)</strong></p>
<p>Applying ice to a sore muscle will reduce the swelling, lower inflammation and reduce pain, ultimately leading to a quicker recovery and repair of the affected muscle.</p>
<p>Bear in mind that DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) can be really bad when you are first starting, but your body will adapt and over the next few weeks you will reach a stage where your muscle soreness is barely noticeable. So stick with it!</p>
<h3>Mystery Shin Pain</h3>
<p>When I started running, I used to experience this annoying pain in my legs during the exercise session and after whenever I walked. I didn’t know what it was or what was causing it at the time, and my naïve brain jumped to conclusions that I would have to get my legs amputated if it persisted (you can roll your eyes all you want, but the pain I felt was driving me nuts…)</p>
<p>Good news is, that&#8217;s also a normal pain especially for new runners. The condition is called Shin splints, soreness of the shin muscles. You can overcome this pain by taking it slow; start with a slow pace and little mileage and gradually increasing both.</p>
<h3>Headaches</h3>
<p>The common cause of headaches during a workout is dehydration. If your head is pounding during or after, you should drink water; Safe amounts of water (drinking a lot of water in a short time causes hyponatremia which is a rapid decrease in the level of electrolytes in your body which can be fatal.)<br />
It could also be a sign that you’re overworking your body; cut back a little. You can do it all in one day, the key is consistent small efforts, not one large one that sends you to hospital.</p>
<h2>2. Failure &#8211; Challenges of a Fitness Journey</h2>

<p>Failure.. is a part of success.. if you want to be successful in anything you must embrace failure, it is through failure that we learn and grow the most. The more you fail the quicker you will actually reach your goals. So don&#8217;t be afraid to fail, be brave, be powerful. Go after what you want proudly, knowing you are doing what&#8217;s best for you. If you do fail, then go again because at the time of your latest failure, you were closer to your goal than ever before and your next big effort will be the next breakthrough.</p>
<h2>3. Lack of Motivation &#8211; Challenges of a Fitness Journey</h2>
<p>People always ask ‘how&#8217;: how did you get all that money, how did you lose all that weight, how did you get over your ex? When the more important question is ‘why.&#8217; When your why is really strong, it can get you out of any slump. And trust me slumps will be there in plenty: times when walking just a mile or two becomes hard, or when you have to summon your inner warrior and all the angels to help you through just one lap around the field.</p>
<p>To beat this lack of motivation, I suggest you:</p>
<ul>
<li>Dig deep <span style="color: #3366ff;"><a style="color: #3366ff;" href="https://iamfearlesssoul.com/happiness-motivational-video/">inside</a></span> you for a why that’s strong enough to withstand anything.</li>
<li>Find something to lose and link it to your ‘why.&#8217;</li>
<li>Have a support system/accountability partner(s).</li>
<li>Have a definite desire.</li>
<li>Write down a fitness goal for the week and month.</li>
</ul>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Being a mom or an entrepreneur are two of the hardest jobs in the world. And yet there are some people who manage to do them together. These people don’t just deserve a medal, they deserve to be emulated. They should be an example to us all.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For that reason, here are some of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned from mom entrepreneurs to date.</span></p>
<h2><b>You can see it as a setback or you can see it as an advantage </b></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most single mothers think that the job of raising their children is so intense that it isn’t possible to do anything on the side. That’s one way to look at it. The alternative is to realize that being a mom teaches you some incredibly valuable skills. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Don’t get me wrong, entrepreneurship is a ton of work. However don’t let the perception of this lifestyle count you out before you even count yourself in. Being a single mom comes with a wealth of skills that do well in entrepreneurship, like: multitasking, creativity, managing and/or operating on a budget and problem-solving to say the least. I don’t know about you but I’d put my money on someone with these skills rather than a new college grad.” Angela Benton, founder and CEO of NewMe told Ebony magazine. And she should know as she’s helped 300 startups and secured over 17 million in funding.</span></p>
<h2><b>Time is your most valuable asset </b></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ebonie Townsend is the founder of 8Twelv told us to focus on our time. She says, “One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a mom and entrepreneur, is that you always have to protect your time and treat it as an invaluable asset. This includes things like charging consultation fees for advice and setting time boundaries for communication with clients.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In other words, treat the time you’re not spending raising your children as the proverb says. Treat it as money. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<h2><b>Focus on the right people </b></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you don’t have that much time you have to make sure that you’ve got people that give and don’t just take – as the latter will make it impossible to actually get anything done.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lisa Stone, who co-founded BlogHer which has an audience of 100 million, says “Ban toxic people from your life. You don&#8217;t have enough time already, right single mom or dad? So if you are living, working or worshipping around a toxic person or people who invade your confidence and bring you down, you MUST remove them from your life.”</span></p>
<h2><b>Involve your children </b></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You might want to keep your children out of the business. The thing is, that might not be the best choice. They might actually be able to offer you ideas and insights that can ultimately make your business boom.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In fact, they can even unintentially become your best sales people. When Michelle founded MamaSuds, which makes its own soap, it’s her children who ended up being her most effective sales tool. “One of the surprising things I’ve learned from running my own business is that I didn’t realize how much my kids would admire me. They are like little sales people, and it was all on their own. They are really proud of me and it’s the best feeling when my daughter says “I want to be MamaSuds when I grow up!” Uh, tears!”</span></p>
<h2><b>Then there’s the money </b></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As a single mom it can be incredibly difficult to manage your finances, because not only do businesses often not generate a lot of money in the beginning, children are expensive as well. Don’t let that stop you. There are still options out there. There are even specific funds designed around helping mom entrepreneurs. Reach out to these entities. Sure, they might say ‘no’, but if you don’t then they definitely will. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Or as Laura Ure of Keenability said, “It may seem overwhelming at first, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it will be worth it. It will give you greater financial freedom and also more flexible control of your time once your business is up and running and you have the right staff in place.” And that will be well worth it. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So don’t give up. You deserve to be a success. You know it, I know it and fortunately so do a whole bunch of financial institutions.</span></p>

<h1>Why do we fail in achieving goals?</h1>
<p>The most common goals include losing weight, healthier living and life improvements, but within 6 months these goals have been completely given up or forgotten. So why are our goals doomed to fail before they have even begun?</p>
<p>The goals that we set are too broad and unrealistic for us to be able achieve. They usually lack real meaning and we set them without putting a plan in place on how we go about achieving them. Confidence and being ready for change is also a big factor. If you really aren’t ready to make those changes and you aren’t confident that you will get there, then you are likely to fail before you even get started.</p>
<h1>How to overcome challenges for goal achievement</h1>
<h2>Create a vision</h2>
<p>A vison is the picture that you have of yourself living your life the way you want it to be. It is a picture of you at your very best self. It can be in any shape or form, a picture, a painting, bullet points or even a paragraph. It needs to be unique and meaningful to you. Before you create your vision, ask yourself, what is the reason I want to be this way? What is the true meaning behind my vision? By identifying your deep motivators will help keep you on track.</p>

<h2>Identify your strengths</h2>
<p>We rarely take time to reflect on our achievements in life, but by identifying all the things that we do well will boost our confidence to help us achieve our goals. Take some time to list out your top five strengths, or reflect back on the times where you have successfully accomplished something. If you are struggling to think of them then you can take the VIA strengths survey to help you.</p>
<h2>Overcome your barriers</h2>
<p>Look at your vision and ask yourself, what could get in the way? Make a list of any potential barriers that may arise. Once you have jotted them down, read over them and start planning some strategies to overcome them.</p>
<h2>Enlist support</h2>
<p>Tell your family, partner, friends or work colleagues of your plans. Having support around you increases your chance of success.</p>

<h2>Failure is the key to success</h2>
<p>Part of successful change is setbacks. You will fail along the way. Without failure, you will not be able to succeed. You need to fall to grow, learn and develop new strengths. See your setbacks as an opportunity to grow. Growth leads to lasting change.</p>
<h2>Are you ready to change?</h2>
<p>This is one of the most important parts of goal setting. How ready are you for this change? How important is it for you to make this change right now? A good way to measure this is to use the ruler scale, give yourself a number between 1-10. Ideally you need to be at least at a 7 before you start your plan.</p>
<h2>Why set goals?</h2>
<p>Goals represent landmarks on a journey, if you don’t have a structured plan in place then there is no path to follow. Preparation is key for successful goal setting. Changing behaviour is essentially about changing habits. If you change your habits too quickly and without planning, and if you aren’t ready for that change it is harder to achieve those changes.</p>

<h2>Successful goal setting</h2>
<p>Start with a 3 month outcome goal with weekly action goals that lead you towards the 3 months. Starting with 3 months is more realistic for us to envision. If we change too quickly our bodies struggle to adapt. It is the small changes that lead to long lasting change. Ask yourself, what would I like to be doing in 3 months that will lead me towards my vision? What do I need to do to get there?</p>
<h2>Create SMART goals</h2>
<p>SMART stands for specific, measurable, attractive, realistic and timed. By using this principle, you will succeed with your goals. For example if you goal is I want to be exercising a few times per week, this goal doesn’t fit the SMART formula, whereas, I want to be running on Mondays and Wednesdays for 45 minutes and strength training on Thursdays and Saturdays for 30 minutes does fit, as it is specific, measurable and timed. Realistic and attractive is equally important; the goal needs to be something that you really want to do as well as realistic to achieve. You can use the ruler scale again here, ask yourself, how confident am I that I can achieve this goal this week? How important is it to me?<br />
Once you have set your 3 month goal, the next step is set your weekly goals that will lead you toward the 3 month goal. For example, your goal maybe, on Monday I will for a walk at 6am for 15 minutes, just remember to follow the SMART formula and you are guaranteed to succeed.</p>
