Seeking Simplicity – How To Find Joy In The Mediocre

A lot of people seem to have an aversion to the idea of mediocrity.

It’s as if the idea of ‘success’ or achievement has become the obsession, at the cost of all else.

The fantasies we hold about power and fame have become the driving factor in our lives.

Why does mediocrity have to be negative? What if a life of mediocrity could represent stillness, connection, and clarity?

Perhaps mediocrity could be the goal of the new generation.

In a society heavily driven by ego, there is nothing at all wrong with craving simplicity.

It is a spiritual revolution to choose to scale back, go inward, slow down and be thankful for what is.

It is a marker of awakening to allow yourself to stop. To trust the moment, to cease seeking and striving and just be mediocre.

There are countless stories recounted from all over the world, where the happiest people are those who seem to own very little stuff. No big title against their names. They are content with what they have, little as it may be.

With the joys of family, love and connection life really isn’t mediocre at all is it?

Think of all the simple things you can do which are anything but mediocre.

Sharing a meal with loved ones. Taking a walk in nature. Dancing to music. Listening to and telling stories. Being present.

All of these moments are markers of a beautiful and fulfilled life.

These things do not require you to BE MORE. There is no measure of success on this list. No competition for who can sit the stillest or breathe the deepest.

There is no doubt that it is a worthy venture to work on ourselves, and wanting to grow into the greatest version of who we are is a journey we should all take in this life.

It is one of the gifts of existing that we have the freedom and capacity to bend and shape our existence and our being into whatever we so choose.

But at some point, in amongst the growth, we must also learn to stop and enjoy what IS. In between the striving and achieving there needs to be space.

That space is where we meet the truth of our being, without all of the attachments and labels we place upon ourselves in order to feel loved and worthy.

When we stop and appreciate all we have, we can also appreciate all that WE ARE.

That is, the spirit of the Universe in motion, love personified, ENOUGH.
